Eye Surgery

Katie will have to under go eye surgery eventually. We are going to wait until she recover fully from this last surgery. Her left eye is still giving her problems. It has now ceveloped a "lazy eye". Doc said that with all the pressure she was under until that latest surgery she had the nystagmus put her muscles out of wack. He will have to go in at some poin t and fit them so her eye will not turn in and up when she look at you from the side. It is not affecting her vision at this point, which is very good, but I do not want to wait to do that surgery until it does. Aaron on the other hand does want to wait. sowe will have to iron that out. I figure we could wait until next summer to do it. It will giver her enough time to recover from the other surgery and get her first year of school in, PreK. Kids can be cruel if  you have something different about you and they dont understand. What do you guys think, should I wait until it affects her vision? Should I go ahead and do it in the summer so she can continue to try to have a somewhat normal life with Chiari?

Madison Feb 2010

Greta news, Katie is on the road to recovery. The MRI looked awesome. Her tonsells are no longer rough looking jagged, there is no fluid surrounding them. The tonsells are now somooth and rounded.  They look great. I just have to have patience, which i know I haave to find some. She is doing very well, i just do not like to see her in pain. No mother does like to see their kids in pain, the doctor did remind me the it does take a whole yaer to recove form this type of surgery. We wont know what kind of perminant damage she will have from the first surgery until after the year is over. It is nice to see my little girl is coming back and blossoming but is going to take time to get her all the way back. Dr said patience mama patience. I know, I know. LOL

Dr Luthra

Katie had an appointment with her pediatritian today. All is well and she is able to go and have her MRI scan done on February 11th. She is still waking in the night with headaches and leg pain but it is not as frequent as they used to be. That is a good sign. It is nice to see that change. She did tell Dr. Luthra that she was still getting the headsaches. I am so gald that Katie is getting old enough to be able to say how she feels now. Hopefully pretty soon she will will be able to voice her pain and frustration instead of lashing out. That will be a huge step forward.

Katie update

Katie has been doing pretty good after sugery. We have had some issues with headaches and leg pains yet but the doctor said we have to wait about a year to see if those will be resolved from the surgery. It is frustrating, especially when she wakes up not knowing where she is or what she is doing. Almost like she is sleepwalking but in pain. We have an appointment in Madison for a follow up MRI on February 11th at 8:30 in the morning then  meet with the doctor afterward. She is a strong little girl. I hope the leg feels better soon because she does limp on her right leg when it hurts.
